Mentalism. Mind-reading. Psychological Illusions. All of these terms have been applied to what I do, alongside more traditional magic. Close up, walkaround and stage performances available and suitable to all events.
Magic! Illusion! These words conjure up immediate thoughts and associations, be it the children's magician you saw perform at a party, the close up magician who impressed you with his incredible dislay of cards at a restaurant, or one of the greats of magic such as Penn and Teller performing big stage illusions on a stage in Las Vegas.
The words Mentalism, Mind Reading and Psychological Illusion may conjure up other images. Dark serious figures claiming true psychic powers. Stage mediums or hypnotists, and of course television's Derren Brown.
So what do you get when I perform a magic and mentalism act? The first answer is that is depends where you see me. I am equally comfortable performing closeup, walkaround , parlour or on stage.
The key to what I do, in my opinion, is a different approach to magic to many magicians. Many magicians will tell stories of a youth spent passing hours in front of a mirror perfecting trick after trick and sleight after sleight. I started out as an actor and comic before finding my way into magic and mentalism. Therfore where as many magicians begin with a focus on their tricks alone, I start with a performance! Of course I has spent hours a day since deciding to make the switch into magic and metalism some years ago studying magic and psychology, perfecting the skill base that is required for mymagic and mentalism, but I will never forget that my audience is there to be entertained... not just confused!
People often ask who my influences are. I've already mentioned Penn and Teller, and Derren Brown are in there, along with, and Sherlock Holmes (whose observational skills fascinated me since I first read the books as a child, and I love to try to get as close to his skills as possible in people reading!).
