Ambient Classical Piano and Classic Songs.
Andrew offers an appealing blend of carefully chosen classical repertoire and classic songs from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. The classical repertoire is emotionally cool and suited to a relaxed atmosphere. Sequences include carefully selected pieces by composers such as Chopin, Ravel, and Debussy. Novelties include such things as a solo piano version of the second movement of Rachmaninov's second piano concerto, and specially devised arrangements of songs by Jerome Kern. For something more extrovert, his party piece is a solo piano version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Andrew's playing is highly accomplished and stylish. Although he performs classical repertoire in the main, he is foremost an entertainer and seeks to please through expressive and engaging performance. He plays from scores but is extremely flexible (he can find an ending if needed). He's an expert sight reader, capable of learning new repertoire quickly (tell him what you want and he'll learn it, even if all he has to go on is a recording). He can sing to his own accompaniment (songs by Kern and Gershwin); this offers another dimension to what Andrew offers in longer sets.
